Twenty-something Cakes is an ex-Chef turned health and fitness enthusiast following a Low-Fat Raw/ Cooked Vegan lifestyle. She is charismatic, meticulous and candid with the ability to create delicious recipes from raw fruits and vegetables, as well as cooked meals. She also offers advice on food, health, fitness, beauty and fashion while being vegan in a sad, S.A.D. world.
Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico to a Dominican, Italian mother and a Peruvian, German father, she spent the first 11 years of life in Montego Bay, Jamaica where she enjoyed the fruits of life (pun intended). Having announced to her family at the age of six that she was a vegetarian, she received encouragement through the form of indifference and remained such until later on in life. At eleven she moved with her family to Lima, Peru, contributing to her multi-cultural background and love of food. At eighteen she moved to the U.S. alone with two suitcases, $40.00 and nowhere to live. Engaging her instinctive survival skills, she managed on her own in a foreign country and soon enrolled in and graduated from Le Cordon Bleu Miami. Until then she had been a vegetarian for 12 years. Consequently due to her abrupt conversion to a Standard American Diet (S.A.D.), within her first year in the U.S. she had gained 40 lbs and developed severe adult acne, as well as low self-esteem. She travelled around the country working in various restaurants, including life on a cruise ship in Alaska.
She met her husband while on the cruise ships and after a season of working together in Mexico they decided to settle down in Portland, Oregon and she decided to leave the restaurant industry. It was at this point that Cakes began to experiment with veganism with her more than willing partner and after watching the movie Earthlings they both converted and never looked back. Soon after they learned about the world of raw veganism and were intrigued by the many health benefits that were associated with the diet.
Though never straying from veganism, the raw vegan lifestyle has been a RAWky road. And so, spawned from the many ups and downs in the past few years trying to stick to what she believes to be the most vibrant way of life, this blog was born with the hopes to provide help to others curious about the lifestyle, in need of support, suggestions, advice and whatever else Cakes dishes out from here on out on a RAWky road.
